As soon as you land at the airport buy a road map. The best I’ve found is “Guia de Carreteras”.

Some hire car companies may give you a map of Cuba. Don’t expect to use GPS in Cuba. I have read mixed viewpoints on GPS.

Or another tip from our own example. When booking your car hire online, double then triple check the dates you want to hire the car. We’ve found on some booking services that the dates over several confirmation screens can change.
